Finally In Malaysia.

So here I am.

After three days of travelling I have reached Kuala Lumpur at 21st July, around 10pm Malaysian time (GMT +8). Firstly: I went by bus from Kalisz to London (totally it took me 24 hours, bus was of course late). Then I had to wait few hours at the Gatewick Airport for the plain to Dubai (Emirates Airlines). In Dubai I waited around 3 hours for the flight to KL. Each of them took around 7-8h. While flying – I wasn’t doing nothing more than watching movies, eating and sleeping (unfortunately I had the place in the middle, so couldn’t take pictures from above).

Total weight of my luggage was 23kg, so they put on it ‘HEAVY’ card ;) Fortunately they didn’t charge me for that.

While staying at the airport in Dubai I made the stupidest thing in my life: Inside the airport there is a big shopping mall. I felt very sleepy, so I was searching for a coffee. I found Starbucks and ordered big latte. Price list was with their currency and I was too sleepy to analyze data, so I just asked whether I can pay in dollars – sure I could. But it was too late, when I realized that I will pay for it $9 (sic!). I think it was the most expensive coffee in my life!

At the KLIA (which stands for Kuala Lumpur International Airport – Malaysians love abbreviations!) I had to fulfill a form concerning my health, which was focused on H1N1 virus. Then with cams and some specific tools they were checking temperature of the people who just get out from the plain.

Afterwards I took an express train to KL Sentral, where my team picked me up. I ate my first supper in a nIndian restaurant, eating one of the most popular (and probably one of the cheapest) Indian meal: Roti Canai (but probably it should be written in a different way). And this is the first time where I had the opportunity to see how much Malaysians eat. They eat a lot! (especially Faldli :D) Afterwards they drove me back to the place where I am staying till now (already one week) – a flat where one of my team mates, Khai Lun, lives. They made me also a surprise: bought a durian for me, so I could try the most smelly fruit whole over the world :D It smells as onion mixed with sugar. Smell seems to be quite familiar for me, because as I was a child my mom was preparing kind of medicine (when I was coughing) by adding a lot of sugar to slices of onions and waiting for the onion’s juice. So durian smells quite similar. But not only smell is very special: texture also, but it’s totally hard to describe. And taste – a little bit sweet. It would be quite nice, but the smell… ;)

Then we realized that there is a moth flying around the lamp, which was surprisingly (of course only for me) big! It’s wings were around 7-8cm long. You can imagine how big were my eyes where I was staring at it!

The next shock took place in the office, I think during second or third day of staying in here. At the evening I was sitting there with my predecessor in the office discussing about one event, when I realized that there is a lizard running through the room. It was around 8 till 10cm long and was moving very quick! I was sitting there with my eyes wide open and wondering what kind of surprises wait for me!

They keep saying that those small lizards are cute and useful, because they eat insects, that are in the house. But still the thought that it can steal under my blanket (since I sleep on the mattress) doesn’t let me fall asleep when I hear it’s sound. I think I need time to get use to it :p

* * *

Malaysians usually do not drink a lot (in comparison to Poles :P). It’s an Islamic country, so the alcohol here is very expensive. And most of them club seldom.

So how do they integrate? While eating :D They celebrate eating. Good lunch/dinner spent together is always on the first place! Doesn’t matter whether we eat roti chanai in the bar nearby and pay for it 3RM or eat some fancy food in a restaurant and pay for it 5 time more.

What is more important: they have a lot of (good) food in here!!! There are three basic ethnic groups: Malay, Indians and Chinese and imagine that each of them has its own cuisine and three of them are perceived as basic ones. And this is how they have 5 types of noodles, probably more types of rice and mix it with different types of meat, seafood and vegetables. Crazy!

I was supposed to lose some weight here, but now I have a lot of doubts O_o

And there are also a lot of drinks – what is probably caused by the high temperature (I forgot to mention that is REALLY HOT and humid in here). And 90% of those which I have already tried are super sweet.

Despite expensive alcohol – they DO have clubs in here! :D What is very rewarding for me. As long as you are able to pay for the beer 15RM or to get drunk at the 'before party' – it’s cool :D You can have a drink sitting at the fancy balcony in a short sleeve, shorts and flip flops. And music is ok – very similar to this in Polish clubs.

And yesterday I saw a funny word, which was actually the name of the shopping mall (there is a lot of malls here): PARKSON. Doesn’t it sound funny in Polish? :D

It’s 11pm here and I have no plans for the evening and no Internet at home, so probably I will go sleep to wake up in the morning and go online. Maybe check comments on nasza-klasa and put some info on facebook before I start work ;) It’s 5pm in Poland now but nobody writes on my mobile. Do you guys know that I have still the Polish number (+48502..)? You can write and pay for the SMS as I would be in Poland. And then I will write you back from the number (+6017..) ;)

And still haven’t bought the postcards, sorry :p

If you want to see more of the pics write me, I will give you my picassa.

Greets!
